  • What is DR digital x-ray?  There are two subdivisions for DR digital x-ray technology: (1) a CCD (Charge-Coupled Device) Sensor and (2) a DR, Flat Panel Sensor.  In the CCD Sensor system, x-rays pass through a patient to energize a digital scintillator receptor.  This energy is then converted to light.  This light is then captured by the CCD technology and converted into image data.  In the Flat Panel Sensor system, a 'flat-plate' x-ray sensor directly captures and converts x-rays into electrical signals.  In both, the image data is assimilated by the system software.  The system software will display the image on a high resolution monitor in seconds. 

  • What is CR digital x-ray?  A 'cassette-like' device with an x-ray sensitive plate is used in the same way as regular cassettes. After the exposure this cassette or sometimes only the 'plate' is inserted into a 'scanner' which reads and digitizes the image, then erases it. The Image is available for viewing about 30-90 seconds after the scanning. The plate is reusable many times.
